A POPULAR local pub has been shortlisted for two national honours.

The Bay Horse in Lindley is in the running for the Best Music Pub and the Best Marketed Pub in the country.

The venue, at the Bay Horse roundabout, is well-known for its specialist themed music nights and has won awards for them in the past.

The pub is now down to the last five in both sections.

Winners of the awards, hosted by the Publican magazine, will be announced at The Grosvenor Hotel in London on March 21.

Bay Horse landlord Steve Pyke and his wife, Clare will be attending.

Steve said: "One of the reasons we have been shortlisted could be that others shortlisted are music venues that sell beer while we are a pub that has innovative music nights."

Some are themed on films and include The Italian Job, Quodrophenia, the films of Quentin Tarantino and James Bond movies.

Huddersfield Scooter Club meets at the pub every Wednesday.

In January the pub was transformed into a jungle which tied in with the I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here TV programme. Steve also allows bands to play their own music in the pub.

"Some pubs only allow cover bands through the door, but we believe in giving new talent a chance," he said.

Music that has featured in the pub over the years ranges from string trios to a Bon Jovi tribute band.

Back To School themed nights featured music from the 70s and 80s and turned into fund-raising events with proceeds donated to local schools
