Another TV series partly shot in Huddersfield has hit our screens.

Happy Valley begins a six-week run this evening.

And some of the scenes of the police drama were filmed in Armitage Bridge’s North Light Studios.

It was another coup for the company which has recently seen TV dramas such as DCI Banks and Jamaica Inn filmed in the area.

The BBC One drama was written by Sally Wainwright and partly filmed in Calderdale, and stars Sarah Lancashire as police sergeant Catherine Cawood.

She was on duty when flustered and nervous accountant Kevin Weatherill, played by former Bretton Hall student Steve Pemberton, comes into her West Yorkshire police station to report a crime. He’s reticent about the details and Kevin loses his nerve. The crime he was trying to report was Kevin’s own brain-child, a plot to kidnap his boss’s daughter and keep enough of the ransom to put his kids through private school.

The series also stars George Costigan as Nevison Gallagher and many of his scenes were filmed in Armitage Bridge.

Ben Sweet, of North Light, said: “We were delighted to create an office set in our studios for the production team.

“Sarah Lancashire and Steve were here for some of the filming and they were really great.

“It’s another feather in Huddersfield’s cap with a growing tradition of film and TV making”.
