ROAD users were today urged to stay alert and have an accident-free Christmas.

Clr Martyn Bolt, Kirklees Council's Cabinet member for transport and road safety, asked motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to follow the Be Seen message on dark winter nights.

Clr Bolt said: "Any time of year is bad enough for families to be upset by relatives and friends being involved in road accidents.

"Christmas is a special time for us all. Let's not spoil it by increasing the risks of road accidents."

He said: "Wearing something fluorescent is the best way to be seen on dull dark days and wearing something reflective is most effective at night.

"For those of us driving our vehicles let's all make sure we can be seen by cleaning our vehicles, cleaning our lights and making sure they are properly adjusted."
