PEOPLE have been urged to take simple crime prevention steps to prevent thefts from gardens.
The better weather means garden furniture and ornaments are put out - tempting opportunist thieves.
Pc Dave McSween- ey, of Huddersfield police, said: "There are measures people can take to make it difficult for thieves to steal their property."
These included:
* Postcode garden furniture and ornaments. This will make it easier for police to return stolen items it they are recovered
* Put a high-security padlock on shed doors and bolt the fastening through to the inside. Alternatively, use a lockable shed bar
* Fix an internal grille to the shed window
* Put a battery-operated alarm in the shed
* Put garden furniture away at the end of the day
* Install security lights outside to deter thieves.
