A MOTHER-OF-TWO who obtained more than £32,000 in benefits while working for the NHS has been jailed for 12 months.
Michelle James, 34, of White Hart Drive, Newsome, legitimately claimed income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit while she was a lone parent.
But from 1999 she failed to tell the authorities about her work in hospitals.
Bradford Crown Court heard she had was a cleaner with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust.
But her aptitude for nursing led to her becoming an auxiliary and then a rehabilitive assistant.
Michelle Colborne, for James, said her client had wanted to come off the benefits, but worried about what she would be asked.
It was not a case involving an extravagant lifestyle.
But Judge Roger Scott
suggested the reason she had not come off the benefits was because an average of £100 a week in her hand was "too attractive".
