A MAN was convicted of fraudulently obtaining more than £700 in housing and council tax benefits while working.
Huddersfield magistrates heard that Richard Donkin, 21, of Ing lane, Newsome, did not tell benefits officials of his new job.
When initially questioned by a benefits investigation officer looking into his case Donkin claimed he had been surviving on £100 every month sent by his mother from Spain.
When pressed he admitted he was receiving money for "extras" at a job which could earn him £45 a week.
In all, it was said he illegally claimed £556.56 in housing benefit and £145.44 in council tax benefits.
Absent from Huddersfield Magistrates' Court yesterday , Donkin, was fined £600 and ordered to pay £150 costs.
