LIFELONG Town fans who lost their son in an accident have raised a massive sum for the club’s charity campaign.

Peter and Janet Swallow have raised more than £11,000 for the Keep It Up campaign which boosts the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Terrier’s junior academy.

It costs £7,200 a day to operate the lifesaving helicopter and the couple have raised enough to keep it in the air for a whole day.

Jan, whose son tragically passed away after an accident almost five years ago, said: “Since losing my son Graham in May 2007, we have become heavily involved with the Keep it Up campaign and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

“Our loss is immense but the Air Ambulance gave Graham the best chance he had.

“We will always continue to raise funds for those helicopters to give others the same chance.”

The couple have supported the campaign since its inception in 2009, through various activities such as a skydive, a garden party, raffles, sponsored decorating, baking, sponsored walks and the Pedal for Pounds bike ride.

Jan also donates all proceeds made through her craft stalls directly to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle, said: “Peter and Jan have dedicated three years to raising this staggering amount of money, and to hear of their efforts makes me extremely proud.

“To have raised enough to keep YAA’s helicopters up for a day is a huge achievement, as that could be the day in which a life is saved.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to congratulate them on their amazing contribution.

“I remember speaking to Peter and Jan and something they told me has stayed with me; they explained that they used to come and support the team, but that the Keep It Up campaign has made them feel part of it.

“For me, that is what it’s all about.”

The club’s next Pedal for Pounds Challenge takes place in May when 300 hardy riders will tackle the route from Yeovil back to the Galpharm Stadium for Town’s last game of the season.
