A COUPLE who met at a Huddersfield youth club have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Ken France, of Newsome, and his wife Betty, of Taylor Hill, had both attended Berry Brow School but only met when they attended a youth club at the village’s Wesleyan Chapel aged 17.
The couple were married at Taylor Hill Methodist Chapel on October 20, 1951 and celebrated their reception in the Sunday School building.
Ken began his career working at Rippon Brothers before moving into the textile industry and worked at several mills in West Yorkshire while Betty worked as a secretary.
The couple then decided to work in social care, where they became house-parents at Hilton Grange children’s home in Bramhope.
The couple, who are very keen dancers, have two children David, 56, and Andrea, 53 and they also have two grandsons Jack, 23 and Harry, 21.
They celebrated their anniversary with friends and family at the Moorland Lodge, Scammonden.
