PUNTERS have been urged by police to shun a betting scam in West Yorkshire.
People are sent a letter from a sporting consultancy company claiming it is called Etheridge and Sons.
The letter gives a phone number for people to contact. When they ring up, they are told to place bets by credit cards - and a percentage of the winnings will go to the consultancy.
Victims are given the impression they can't lose. But they do.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police's Fraud Squad said: "We would strongly advise people not to respond to these letters or enter into any situations in which they are required to part with money on the understanding it will be repaid before first verifying the validity of the organisation they are dealing with and the offer being made."
