CHILDREN who want to stay alive this summer should not play on railway tracks, say police.

British Transport Police are worried more and more children are trespassing on to railway lines and fear lives will be lost.

Up to 60 people are killed on the railway every year by crossing the tracks, taking short cuts, messing around or playing chicken.

Now BTP are working with lightweight Commonwealth boxing champ Amir Khan and Hollyoaks star Claire Cooper to get the danger message across and educate youngsters about the hazards of playing on railway lines.

The pair sparred in a boxing ring outside Euston station in north London to launch the safety campaign called No Messin’ Live 2007.

The campaign aims to discourage 11 to 16-year-olds from trespassing on the tracks by offering them the chance to take part in other activities such as boxing, skateboarding and martial arts.

The free events are touring the country and are open to any youngsters who would like to take part.

BTP have increased patrols in problem hotspot areas and are encouraging parents to inform youngsters about the dangers.
