A GANG of men hurled sickening racist abuse at people on a train, it is claimed.

Now British Transport Police are eager to trace the victims and believe some may come from the Huddersfield or Dewsbury areas.

Eight men in their late teens or early 20s were on the 6.13pm train from Manchester to York last Saturday.

When the train arrived in York, passengers complained the eight had insulted black and asian people on the train - but all the victims had got off by the time the train reached York.

Pc Kevin Andrews, of the British Transport Police, said: "Officers spoke to the eight men and now know who they are and where they live.

"We are anxious to trace people who believe they are victims of the racial abuse which witnesses said was sickening.

"We believe one of the victims was an elderly asian man who got on the train in Huddersfield."

The eight men spoken to by police come from the North Yorkshire and Teeside areas.
