Hundreds of new jobs could be created in Kirklees and Calderdale after an economic boost from Chancellor George Osborne.

Four new business and industry sites will be included in a new Enterprise Zone announced by the Chancellor in Wednesday’s Comprehensive Spending Review.

In all the Chancellor created 26 new zones which offer big discounts on business rates or enhanced capital allowances for firms making large investments in plant and machinery.

The new Leeds City Region enterprise zone follows the M62 and includes Lindley Moor East and West in Huddersfield, Clifton Business Park, near Brighouse, and Moor Park, off Leeds Road, Mirfield.

Roger Marsh, chairman of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, welcomed the announcement of the region’s second Enterprise Zone and said: “We submitted a robust and strong cause to government and I am delighted to announce this successful bid.

“The advanced and innovative manufacturing opportunities along the M62 corridor give us a unique offering to potential investors and businesses looking to benefit from the advantages of locating on an Enterprise Zone.

“With the Leeds City Region boasting the largest number of manufacturing jobs in the country, these sites will support the wider manufacturing and logistics sector with up to 100% business rate discount or 100% Enhanced Capital Allowances to businesses making large investment on qualifying plant and machinery costs.
