A NEW £1.6m community sports ground in Dalton is all set for a spectacular Bonfire Night opening!

Everything is on course for the building work to be completed on the Ridgeway development by November 5.

The structure for the main building, which will house two bars, six changing rooms with showers and a fitness suite, has already been erected.

Work is also at an advanced stage on flattening Moldgreen Amateur Rugby League Club's first-team pitch, while a new multi-purpose, all-weather play area is to be completed at the back of the complex.

Although the newly-named Dram Centre - short for Dalton, Rawthorpe And Moldgreen - is on the site of the Ridgeway rugby ground, it will be a multi-sport community centre, with the likes of the Dalton Dynamos junior football club also playing there.

This will be reflected in the make-up of the Dram committee. It will consist of three members from Moldgreen Amateur Rugby League Football Club, three from other sports based at the centre and three members of the local community.

"Everything is going extremely well and all the building work is due to be completed on time," said Jill Sykes, the Dram Centre's temporary acting manager.

"We're already planning for a big community opening on Bonfire Night, followed by an official opening around two months later.

"We're also in the process of forming the Dram Centre community. We are asking anyone who would like to be considered to get in touch. It should be a fantastic opportunity," added Ms Sykes
