THE HIGHLY acclaimed Moscow State Circus is heading back to town.

The circus, which is now on its 12th UK annual tour, proved a resounding success at Greenhead Park in 2004.

And public demand will see it return this year.

The show features a 35-strong cast of Russia's greatest and most flexible circus performers.

This year's event promises to push the boundaries of human physical ingenuity to its limits.

All the familiar circus acts are covered, such as juggling, clowning, trapeze artistry, extreme balancing and strong man acts.

The entire show will be housed in a 15m-high tent and boasts the highest indoor wire in the world.

General manager Paul Archer said: "We love coming to Huddersfield, the town always does themselves proud by turning out to the events.

"Greenhead Park provides a great setting for the circus, it is a well-drained site and certainly one of our better venues.

"This year we are only going to be going to six different locations in the UK as a result of the demand."

The circus includes aerial displays from Evgeny Eskin's Sky Travellers, strong man acts from Bakhrom Akhnazarov and slapstick comedy from award winning clowns Igor Vorob'ev and Andrey Mashonkin.

Paul added: "Because the circus performers are now in such high demand, it is a great opportunity to get them all together for the circus.

"However this looks like it will be our last tour of the UK as getting all the performers together for such events is proving very difficult."

The circus will be in town at Greenhead Park from Wednesday May 10 to Sunday May 14.

Performance times are Wednesday to Friday at 5pm to 7.45pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2pm to 5pm.
