BIKERS and quad bikes are shattering a village's peace and quiet, say residents.

Fed-up Hipperholme residents are demanding swift action to stop the Woodhead quarries, woodland and access roads being used as a race circuit.

They say the noise and dust nuisance has reached unacceptable level.

They want the police and environmental health officers to work together to find a solution.

Tory councillors David Kirton and Graham Hall organised a residents' meeting to gauge views.

Clr Kirton said he had received many complaints about bikes and quad bikes being used at the weekend and on most evenings on Wood Lane, Kirk Lane and Sutcliffe Wood Lane.

He said the start of summer suggested further problems.

Clr Kirton said there had been similar problems in the area at various locations over the last couple of years.

But he said Wood Lane was now forming part of a race circuit for the bikers.

Children played on their pedal bikes on Wood Lane and at Lane Ends Green, and because it was so narrow there was a possibility of an accident.

He added that police and Calderdale Council's environmental health department had been told and they would act soon.
