BINGO players had to be evacuated yesterday after the hall filled with smoke.

A skip caught fire at the rear of Mecca Bingo, in Folly Hall, Huddersfield, at 2.30pm.

The ventilation system then sucked the smoke into the building.

More than 150 people were evacuated.

Watch manager at Huddersfield fire station Paul Mace said: "When we got there people were still coming out of the building.

"It was actually quite difficult to deal with because the ventilation system automatically shuts down when the fire alarm is going off.

"This meant we could not clear the smoke and stop the alarm.

"We just had to open all the doors and windows and wait."
