A BODY found hidden in a Huddersfield house is that of missing woman Sarah Mournian.
Police and forensic experts had searched the terraced home on Grisedale Avenue, off Grimscar Avenue in Birkby, in mid-January after arresting 40-year-old Kevin Newton.
He was charged with her murder and remanded in custody. But at that time no body was found.
The hunt dramatically switched to a waste tip near York at the beginning of this month where some rubbish from Huddersfield had been dumped.
But in a further twist police returned to Newton’s home on Grisedale Avenue early this week and carried out further searches, which resulted in a body being found.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said that after a forensic post-mortem the body found at the Grisedale Avenue house was that of Sarah.
He said further investigative work was going on at the house and at the waste site.
Officers arrived in force at the landfill site at Rufforth on Monday, February 4, and have been carrying out an intensive search since then.
The 125-acre site, operated by North Yorkshire recycling and waste management company Yorwaste, is called Harewood Whin.
It is next to Rufforth Airfield on the B1224 York to Wetherby Road.
Detectives have pinpointed a particular area of the site and have been digging it out and then carrying out detailed searches of the rubbish.
At the time of Sarah’s disappearance last September West Yorkshire Police launched a missing person inquiry.
