A robber who stole a car in Birkby deliberately crashed it into a police car before abandoning it.

The yellow Seat Leon was stolen from Bay Hall Common Road after the owners, a man and woman in their early 20s, were approached by another man.

The stranger blocked the woman’s way as she tried to get in the driver’s side door and threatened the pair with a stanley knife demanding the keys before driving off.

Despite being uninjured, the victims were left badly shaken.

The car was later seen speeding along Manchester Road in Bradford and was chased by police before the suspect reversed into the police car leaving it undrivable.

The officer was uninjured in the collision.

Police found the car abandoned the following morning on Craven Terrace in the King Cross area of Halifax.

The incident happened on Wednesday, June 29 at 9.45pm but details have only just been released by police.

Pc Kristen Ford, from Kirklees CID, said: “Clearly this has been a frightening experience for both victims, who fortunately were uninjured.”

The suspect has been described as an Asian male in his late 20s to early 30s. He is 5ft 7ins tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a blue and black hooded top and had short black hair.

Pc Ford added: “I would appeal to anyone who was using the road networks that evening who may have seen the distinctive yellow Seat Leon being driven either through Huddersfield, Bradford or Halifax to come forward with any information.”
