A missing man remains a key suspect for the Birkby mass murder.

Shahid Mohammed, 21 on July 7, was arrested by police shortly after the deadly petrol bomb attack on the house in Osborne Road.

He was detained for 96 hours by police in the early stages of the murder probe, but was released on police bail.

He then vanished and extensive attempts by the police to trace him have so far drawn a blank.

His photograph has appeared on BBC TV programme Crimewatch.

It is not known if he is in this country or has fled abroad - but the detective in charge of the investigation, Det Supt Bob Bridgestock, is certain someone knows where he is.

He said: "I am sure people know when he went, where he went and where he is now.

"We have carried out inquiries in Pakistan.

"This man remains wanted for these crimes.

"There is no doubt that people have assisted and protected Shahid Mohammed and I would appeal to them, or anyone with any information as to his whereabouts, to come forward. Their loyalty is misguided."

"Inquiries to find him continue and we will do all we can to trace him and bring him to justice.

"There is no hiding place."
