She’s 81 and revelling in her new-found fame.

Indeed, Mrs Gina Williams is joking with friends and relatives that the paparazzi are at the door of her Birkby home after she appeared in a top TV drama.

Mrs Williams was one of the extras drafted in to appear in the Michael Palin chiller Remember Me, which is being screened on BBC1.

And she admits she loved getting involved, even if it meant long days of filming last winter.

Mrs Williams, a widower, appeared as one of the residents of the care home where Palin’s character Tom goes to stay.

She was delighted to appear four times in the first episode, which was screened to great acclaim last Sunday, and is looking forward to the second of the three episodes on Sunday night.

The bulk of the thriller was shot in Huddersfield, with locations including the former Kirklees College in New North Road, Hill Top at Slaithwaite, Marsden and Armitage Bridge. It was the latest in a series of high-profile productions to be based in the town.

Mrs Williams’ scenes were filmed at the former college building, which doubled up as both a care home and a police station for the shooting.

The former Kirklees Council computer operator said: “My great niece works as a dresser for a production company and heard they were looking for people in their 80s to be extras.

“I put my name forward, went for the interview and got invited to take part.

“We had three days of filming last February and a couple of days ran from 7am to 9pm.

“I was the old lady knitting in the background as two of the actors chatted in the care home and I saw myself four times during the first episode.

“It was great fun and the production people were lovely to us. They made sure we were kept warm on a cold day and gave us some great food.

“Michael Palin came in and chatted to us between scenes and he and the other actors were lovely.

“I think the film is brilliant and I’d certainly like to do it again”.
