HEALTH standards at Birkby Infant and Nursery School have been recognised by Kirklees Council.
High levels of cleanliness, safety and social inclusion have meant the school, in Blacker Road, has been given a Healthy Schools Award by Kirklees.
Learning mentor Jill Hinchliffe, of Golcar, has been the driving force behind the school's bid to be recognised as an excellent learning environment.
She said: "We have worked for about a year preparing our bid and are delighted we have been successful.
"The criteria cover all kinds of aspects, from how clean the school is to how we cater for children with different needs.
"The better the school environment is for the children the better they learn," she added.
