A 24-year-old man who attacked his female partner pleaded guilty to assault.

Thomas South, of Brook Road Lane, Birstall, pleaded guilty to assaulting mother-of-two, Elishia Ostrowski, at Carr Street, Liversedge, on February 28.

Ben Smith, prosecuting at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court, said South pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to that charge and of damaging Susan Rigg’s Ford Focus car on the same day.

He said the trouble had started on the night of February 27 when the couple had gone out drinking separately.

He thought she had been having an affair and an argument developed with the defendant accusing her of having been in a car with another man.

Mr Smith said a 999 call was made by Elishia.

The court heard South admitted he was angry and slapped Elishia once.

He had driven off in a Citroen CV, running into Ms Rigg’s car and causing £350 damage.

In mitigation, Emma Haley said the defendant who had never been in trouble before “has lost his good character.”

She added: “He is a young man who says he behaved appallingly and will take steps to ensure that this is not something that will be repeated in any future relationships.”

District Judge Nick Watson sentenced him to 80 hours unpaid work, told him to pay £350 compensation to Ms Rigg and £360 in costs payable at £50 per week.
