Five people were believed to be struck down when a driver fled an angry mob in a Ravensthorpe street.
Amid fears that a robbery gang targeting Asian families had descended on Charles Street, a group of locals confronted the drivers of three suspicious cars.
One of the cars, a silver Vauxhall Insignia estate, sped off down the narrow one-way residential street, veering onto the kerb and hitting five young people.
He then smashed into the side of a parked Audi, leaving it badly damaged.

Police shut a stretch of Huddersfield’s ring road today after a woman was knocked down.
She suffered head injuries in a collision with a taxi.
The accident happened just after 12pm on the Queensgate stretch of the ring road near to the New Street junction.

We understand there was a bomb scare at Huddersfield bus station just after 1pm.
Bus staff reported an unattended bag near the entrance.
Police evacuated the station and put a cordon in place around the ring road.
We’ve had a few calls on this as the police have sealed off a large part of the town centre.
But it appears it was a false alarm and the cordon has now been lifted.

She is thought to have suffered facial injuries in the accident, which involved a taxi, on the Queensgate stretch of the ring road.
The incident happened at 12.06pm, and traffic in the area is facing delays.

Quick update on the security issue at Manchester Christmas market.
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communication in connection with the incident at the market’s main hub in Albert Square.
The area was evacuated, and the Manchester Evening News says uniformed constables were spotted looking between the outlets and scouring the spaces underneath the wooden huts with torches.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communication and remains in custody for questioning.

BE AWARE OF APPARENT DEALS
Appliances Direct in Huddersfield say that they have had customers queuing since 5am to try and get a deal on items such as their “hover” G Board, a few of which were on sale for £199 from £249.99 until the limited sale stock ran out.
They are selling more boards online at the £249.99 price, which is allegedly on sale from £499.99.
They were selling at the same £249.99 price back in October when I tried them out so just be warned if thinking of buying items today that not all deals are new.
SECURITY SCARE
Manchester’s main Christmas market hub in Albert Square has been evacuated due to a security scare.
Manchester Evening News said that police have evacuated the area in front of the town hall.
Officers with sniffer dogs were seen searching the closed stalls this morning as PCSOs guarded every entrance.
A teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident.
