POLICE are putting festive fear into the minds of criminals.
Officers are sending out cards to known criminals in the run-up to Christmas.
And the message is as bleak as bleak midwinter.
The cards feature a photograph of a man locked up in a police cell - and there is a choice of two with slightly differing messages.
One states: "Staying in this Xmas?" on the front with the message inside: "Where will you be spending Christmas?"
The other has "We've put something away for Christmas" with the message "Make sure it's not you!" inside.
Police have revealed the cards are being posted to 100 of West Yorkshire's most persistent offenders.
The scheme is part of the Target project, West Yorkshire's long-running clampdown on crime and the fear of crime.
Target Chief Insp Mark Busley said: "We want to remind those who have committed crime in West Yorkshire we know who they are and that we're never far away.
"While there may be nothing outstanding against them at the moment, these cards aim to discourage further offending by providing a timely reminder of the consequences of breaking the law."
