Kicked out into the cold just before Christmas, blind dog Basil was left to fend for himself.
The unwanted pet was found wandering the streets of Leeds in mid-December and taken to a dog pound in Wakefield.
When the staff there realised he was blind they immediately contacted Kathy Trout, from West Yorkshire Dog Rescue, to see if they could help as it was vital to find him somewhere safe to stay away from the hurly-burly of the pound.
Kathy said: “When Basil was discovered lost and alone, unable to find shelter he was staggering into things he didn’t know were there.
“He lives in a black world and needs so much love which he gets plenty of with our fosterer, Yvonne Humphries, who cares for him alongside her other dogs.
“Basil is a wonderful dog who copes remarkably well with his blindness. Yvonne lives in a bungalow at Lepton which has several doors leading off the main corridor but Basil has already worked out which room is which.
“He is so calm and playful. Basil is about the size of a corgi and needs another dog to help him find his way around and be his companion and playmate.
“He is very kind, affectionate and well-behaved, travels well in the car and loves going for long country walks on the lead.”
