STAFF blocked the entrance to Proplas Plastics today after claiming they had been paid only 50% of their wages for the last four weeks.

But to their amazement they were told all the bosses of the Huddersfield company were out on a golfing day.

Workers at the Colne Road-based company, which specialises in fascias and guttering, say the firm has only paid its fitters half their wages for the last month.

Yesterday the fitters decided they were going to take action and demand the money they were owed.

Organiser Mark Cave, of Oakes, said he was sure they were suffering so management could continue to get paid fully.

"This morning we blocked the entrance because we felt we were not being treated properly," he said.

"We were amazed when we were told there would be no bosses coming in because they were off playing golf - that says it all.

"We are doing a job and therefore we deserve the full money for what we have done.

"We all have families that rely on us bringing home a proper wage - I have a wife and two children.

"It certainly feels like the bosses are still getting their money and we are the ones that are losing out."

The fitters are demanding the full amount they are owed immediately.

Workers were today locked in talks with company director Peter Lindley after he was summoned to the factory.

He refused to comment until he had spoken with his workers.

Mr Cave said: "We are serious about this. We want what we are owed and we will continue to be out blocking the factory gates each morning until this is sorted.

"If we cannot work why should anybody else?"
