A MANHUNT is on in Huddersfield ... for single men.

A speed dating session has been set up in the town for next Monday and the organisers have plenty of women.

But they have a shortage of men and have now urged the town's bashful bachelors to come forward.

Speed dating involves the same number of men and women - often 25 - paying to meet at an up-market chic venue.

They spend around three minutes talking to one another face-to-face before moving on to the next person.

At the end of the evening they hand in a dating card which clearly indicates anyone they would like to see again.

But both the man and the woman must tick they want to see one another before the organisers exchange the couple's e-mail addresses so they can set up a date themselves.

Monday evening's event at a venue in Huddersfield town centre has been organised by Calderdale woman Siobhan Merrion who runs her own company called Speed Singles.

She said: "It's really bizarre. Our events normally attract far more men than women and we sometimes have to place them in a queue.

"But here in Huddersfield it is the exact opposite. We are booking up fast with single ladies, but the men are proving to be somewhat shy!

"It's fair to say that they tend to leave things until the last minute, but Huddersfield men certainly need more encouragement than the ladies."

Siobhan added: "Our research shows that a significant number of local people are travelling to Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield to attend speed dating events there, but we believe Huddersfield is a really happening place and is fast becoming the trendy town of the north."

Any men wanting to take part in Monday's event, which costs £20 and starts at 6.45pm, should contact Siobhan at www.speedsingles. co.uk or by mobile phone on 07950 315038.
