A man was taken to hospital with head injuries after a large brawl at a Mirfield pub.

A fight involving up to 10 people erupted at The Thirsty Man pub on Friday night.

Door staff struggled to contain the violence as a group of men fought inside the Old Bank Road pub.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, from Dewsbury CID, confirmed several officers had attended the incident.

He said: “There was a disturbance which flared up twice with a number of people involved.

“A man was hospitalised with head injuries which turned out to not be serious.

“Two men and a woman have been arrested and bailed and a number of suspects are outstanding.

“We’re still reviewing the CCTV from the pub and inquiries are ongoing.”

An eye-witness said there was “blood everywhere” after the mass brawl kicked off, at about half-past midnight.

He said bottles and snooker cues were used as weapons in the battle.

He said bouncers had ejected those who had been fighting and the skirmish had continued away from the pub.

But a few minutes later some forced their way back in and the brawl erupted for a second time.

It is thought the man who was hospitalised had a bottle smashed over his head.

He was semi-conscious for a time but managed to stagger from the premises and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
