FORMER top policeman Keith Hellawell has condemned the Yorkshire Ripper tape hoaxer.
Examiner columnist Mr Hellawell - who interviewed Peter Sutcliffe about his crimes - said hoaxer John Humble "had blood on his hands".
And he added: "I hope the enormity of what he did weighs on his conscience for the rest of his life".
As Humble was jailed after admitting perverting the course of justice with his letters and tape, Mr Hellawell said it was great news the case had been concluded.
"It caused so much hurt at the time and, were it not for the hoax, then perhaps two or three of Sutcliffe's victims may still be alive," said the former West Yorkshire Chief Constable.
"We would not have been ruling out people solely on the basis of their accent, as happened with Peter Sutcliffe.
"This man has some blood on his hands".
