A MAN was seriously injured when his BMW ploughed into the central reservation on the M62 after hitting another vehicle.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to the scene, forcing the motorway to be closed in both directions at Rishworth Moor (junction 22) shortly after the crash at 7pm on Monday.

Fire crews helped with recovering the male casualty who had become trapped in the vehicle when it became lodged in the barrier.

Once released from the wreckage, he was flown to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured.

Police reopened the M62 fully at 1.10am.
