Man hit by car in Sowerby Bridge

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in a road traffic collison in Sowerby Bridge.

At about 10.10pm on Saturday, 3 September a grey Kia Cee’d was travelling along Wharf Street towards Halifax, when it was in collision with a 60-year-old man, close to Bar Francisca.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with head and leg injuries, which were initially thought to be life threatening.

His condition is currently described as critical, but stable.

The driver of the Kia, a 21-year-old man, was spoken to by officers at the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the movements of the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to it is asked to contact PC 6222 Judge at the Safer Roads and Neighbourhood Support team on 101, quoting log 1695 of 3 September.

Dewsbury fire station were called to a cricket ground on Sands Lane with reports of a portable building fire at about 5am.

Delays on M62

All lanes have been reopened, but you might face some delays on the M62 at Huddersfield (Westbound) after an accident briefly closed one lane.

Here’s the latest from our traffic partners INRIX:

All lanes re-opened and traffic easing, accident cleared on M62 Westbound between J23 A640 / A643 (Huddersfield) and J22 A672 (Rishworth Moor).

Lane three (of three) was blocked. Affecting traffic from Huddersfield towards Manchester.

Man thought to have fallen from Buxton House

Reporter Robert is currently at the scene. The man is thought to have fallen from adjoining Buxton House - a high-rise block of residential flats.

The tent is erected by a home furnishings store and sandwich shop. There are currently three officers at the scene.

Man's body found after "falling from building"

Police have released a statement after a man’s body was found on the street:

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 4:52am today (5 September), police were called to Albion Street in Huddersfield, where the body of man was found outside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

DI Paul Savage of Kirklees CID, said: “Our enquiries are at an early stage, but we believe the man has fallen from the building nearby. We are currently trying to confirm his identity and establish the full circumstances. There is not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.”

Delays on the M62 westbound

Big traffic problems heading towards Huddersfield on the M62 westbound at the junction for the M606 - we’re already looking at long tailbacks so be aware if you’re commuting from the Leeds direction this morning.

Happy Monday!

Good morning all, heavy traffic on the M62 eastbound around Hartshead but all’s moving. Albion Street northbound is closed this morning due to a “serious police incident” - I will try to find out as soon as possible what is going on so stay with us. It is likely to be closed until midday.
