COUNCIL house tenants should be on their guard against bogus callers during improvement works.
Housing bosses are urging tenants to check the ID of anyone claiming to be a workman who knocks on their doors.
Work is under way on changes at all 26,500 council homes in Kirklees, to get them up to the Government's decent homes standard.
A Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing spokes- man said: "There is a lot of improvement work on estates all across Kirklees.
"It is important that tenants are reminded to check the identity of everyone who visits them while workmen are in the area.
"It is not enough to check that workmen are wearing protective clothing, such as the high-visibility yellow vests or hard hats which display Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing and company logos."
Tenants should always ask to see an official identity card with a landline phone number on it, the spokesman added.
He went on: "If you have any doubt at all about the person, don't let them into your home.
"Please check up on them by ringing your local housing office, the company carrying out the work or the partnering team on 01484 416477."
