BOGUS water workers tricked their way into the homes of two elderly women.

They used a stolen luxury car to make their getaway.

The crooks first called at the home of an 89-year-old woman on Ing Head Road in Slaithwaite at around 10.45am yesterday.

One man knocked on the door and said there was a burst pipe nearby and he needed to check the water.

The woman let him in and stayed with him. But she then discovered his accomplice had slipped in and was searching through rooms.

The men fled in a silver Lexus, GP55 ENO, stolen from Derbyshire.

The man who spoke is white, aged 26 to 28 and 5ft 6in tall, with dark hair. The other is white and in his mid-20s, but only 5ft tall. He wore a brown jumper and brown trousers.

At 12.30pm the same day intruders are thought to have called at the home of an 86-year-old woman on Pennine Crescent in Salendine Nook.

The man wore a yellow reflective waistcoat and said he needed to check the water.

While the woman was in the kitchen with him she saw someone else slip out of the house.

The other man offered to chase him and left. He is white and in his late 30s or early 40s. He had short, light grey hair and an Irish or Scottish accent.
