SHE’S been helping the people of Huddersfield for 37 years.

And now staff nurse Patricia O’Brien is retiring from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Patricia, from Rastrick, started work on the stroke unit on Ward 8 at St Luke’s in 1975 before transferring with the team to ward 21 at HRI.

She said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed nursing.

“You always feel you are helping people and doing a good job.

“You meet a lot of nice people along the way.

“I have met many friends through it and some of my best friends are people I have met in nursing.”

She plans to spend time with her son who is a teacher in Valencia, Spain.

She hopes to relax and simply “see what comes along.”

Colleagues held a small party and said bon voyage to Patricia in the staff room on Ward 21.
