A HUDDERSFIELD club night has been voted the best new party in Yorkshire according to a radio survey.

Thousands of listeners voted `Afterparty' at The Camel Club the best new club night on dance music station Galaxy.

The monthly club night lets revellers party from dusk until dawn with its blend of funky grooves and relaxed, fun atmosphere.

As well as hard work, Afterparty's organiser Dave `Bongo' Biddle puts success down to the night's unique tongue-in-cheek vibe. Daft promotional materials have been drawing crowds since the night started in March 2006.

The night has been so successful Dave, 28, from Newsome, has bought the Camel Club.

Dave, who plays percussion at the night, says: "We set up the night and we didn't expect anything. But it's just got bigger and when we heard thousands of Galaxy listeners had voted for us, it blew our heads off.

"Everywhere in Huddersfield used to close early. Now people don't have to go Leeds anymore. In fact, people have been coming from Leeds.

"A lot of nights take themselves too seriously but we're not like that. We've had daft flyers of us standing naked outside the train station and on the M1.

"We dress the whole place up. We make the extra effort. It only takes a couple of hours to blow up 500 balloons but it makes a big difference. We have extra door staff to keep trouble out. We don't want people to feel on edge in there.

"It's hard work. The night runs until 9am. We can be working for 22 hours, setting up, running the night and doing all the promotion before.

"People have said we could do Afterparty every week but we want to keep it special."

* There was good news for The Cotton Factory and Mark Riley Hairdressers who achieved top five rankings in best bar and best salon respectively.
