A PUB landlord has joined forces with the organisers of World Book Day.

Peter Stocks, of the Hare and Hounds on Liley Lane, Upper Hopton, has launched activities to make sure Thursday's worldwide celebration of books and reading comes to his area.

He has commissioned hundreds of Spread The Word postcards from World Book Day organisers and will leave them in the pub's "snug".

Customers will also be offered the opportunity to design a bookmark for the pub.

Entries will be taken at the bar and the winner given a free meal for two, as well as seeing their design turned into a giveaway for next year's annual event.

Mr Stocks believes customers will enjoy being involved.

He said: "The origins of the day are connected with St George's Day in Catalonia, Spain, when people would give books as gifts to loved ones.

" The Spread The Word postcards will allow customers to see what other people have enjoyed reading and the bookmark competition is a fun way of getting involved."
