A TALENTED young musician who cheated death has been awarded cash to help him develop his talent.
Two years ago, Richard Uttley, 16, was fighting for his life against meningitis B and septicaemia.
He recovered and was able to resume piano-paying, despite losing half the hearing in his right ear.
Now, Richard, who lives in Birkby, has been handed £800 towards his studies.
He is among 100 youngsters to benefit from the Awards for Young Musicians scheme.
Richard, a student at Greenhead College in Huddersfield, is also studying piano at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Last year, he was selected to take part in the ITV programme Britain's Brilliant Prodigies.
He was named best young instrumentalist and received his award from percussionist Evelyn Glennie.
