BOWLING fans played through the night to boost a charily’s funds.

Members of Broad Oak Bowling Club at Linthwaite staged a 24-hour bowlathon in aid of the Stroke Association.

Around 30 members worked to keep the games flowing on the green.

Teams continued into the night, lit only by lanterns as they completed the hour-long matches.

They hoped to raise at least £1,000 for the charity, which supports stroke survivors, families and carers. All of the club’s fundraising activities this year will be given to the charity after it was nominated by a member who has worked with a speech therapist.

Dawn Fowler, competitions secretary for the club, said that it was first time that members had organised a bowlathon for many years.

She said: “We had to bowl by candlelight during the night but the excitement kept us going. Everyone was in very high spirits and had fun, whether they won or lost the game.”
