Police confirm child was hit by a car when he ran to cross the road

Police called to Longwood Road, Paddock after boy struck by car

A four-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after he was struck by a car in Paddock.

The freak accident happened on Saturday tea time when the boy allegedly ran to cross the road and was struck by a yellow Peugeot at the junction of Longwood Road.

West Yorkshire Police Force Duty Inspector Carlton Young said: “It appears a young child has run out between two cars and been involved in a collision and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

“The driver of the car was not injured and has not been arrested.”

Police confirmed a number of witnesses saw the collision and the driver was not at fault.

The boy was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by ambulance, having suffered a broken ankle.

He is expected to make a full recovery.

West Yorkshire Police Road Traffic Collision Investigators were called to scene and cordoned off the road to allow emergency services to treat the child.
