FOUR women are determined to prove learning disabilities will not hold them back.

They’re running the Race for Life.

Beth May, Helen Lark, Rachel Hutchinson and Claire Whitley are all residents of Hampton House in Bradley, a home for people with learning disabilities.

But after some of them experienced family members battle cancer, they wanted to do something to help.

The women will take to the streets of Huddersfield for the 10k run.

Diana Marshall, of the Bradley home, said: “They’ve been training every Thursday at the track at Leeds Road playing fields.

“We are a new home but we wanted to encourage our residents to integrate and get involved in social community events.

“It also raises awareness among them about cancer – some of them have had family members with cancer and it’s an opportunity for them to support the cause.”

The women will be joined by staff members Fay Brennan, Donna Tompkinson, Renata Raiziene, Claire Morrison and Fay Colbeck.

Race for Life takes place over next weekend (July 9 and 10).
