AN awareness event about Parkinson's Disease was held in Huddersfield.

The Huddersfield branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society hosted an information day at the Town Hall yesterday.

It was held to help hospital workers and residential care workers learn more about the needs of Parkinson's sufferers.

The society emphasised the importance of Parkinson's patients getting their medication on time when admitted to hospital or a care home.

Jennifer Tellez, the Huddersfield branch secretary - pictured (right) with branch treasurer Norma Tindall - said: "Health professionals must make sure people with Parkinson's get their medication on time, every time, to stop the condition getting out of control."

The awareness event included information for people with Parkinson's, their carers and families about services available in Kirklees.

As well as hosting events, the society sends letters and information packs to hospital chiefs, consultant neurologists, chief pharmacists and nursing directors.
