Young entrepreneur Alex Bray has received an award for founding a popular brass band contest which develops upcoming musicians.

Alex, who founded Brass Factor in 2010, won the Community Champion Award at a ceremony organised by Holme Valley Parish Council, last month.

The competition, which takes place at Holmfirth Picturedrome, attracts bands from across Yorkshire.

Alex was also given a grant by the parish council to continue promoting Brass Factor and nurturing young musical talent.

Holme Valley Parish Council chairman Greg Christofi said: “Alex is a young and very talented person in our community.

“He is always enthusiastic and has volunteered himself in many different ways, working very hard on different projects within the Holme Valley and promoting and developing Brass Factor and putting Holmfirth on the map.”
