A BRIDE who was horrifically maimed in a wedding day accident nearly two years ago was finally getting married this afternoon.

Dawn Auty, 44, formerly of Marsh, was on her way to church on a motorised tricycle when her bridal gown got trapped in the drive shaft.

Her legs were pulled into the machinery and were so badly injured that doctors had to amputate them at the scene to save her life.

As Dawn fought to survive, groom Stephen Flood was waiting for her with family and friends just yards away at the New Central Methodist Church in Blackpool.

The couple split up after the accident in November, 2003.

But they are back together and living in Fleetwood.

Mum-of-two Dawn is walking with the help of false legs and was marrying Mr Flood, 34, at Mount Methodist Church in Fleetwood.

She was a nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for 20 years.
