TERMINAL cancer sufferer Jane Tomlinson is preparing for her most challenging feat - a 2,500-mile bike ride from Rome to her home town of Rothwell, Leeds.

The mum-of-three plans to go ahead with the European ride on Monday, even though ill-health caused her to struggle to complete the London Marathon in just under seven hours.

Mrs Tomlinson, who was awarded an honorary degree by Huddersfield University, was told she had months to live three- and-a-half years ago.

Her new challenge will mean a 35-day tandem bike ride with her brother, Luke, from St Peter's Square in Rome.

Mrs Tomlinson said: "I'm quite sad about being away from my family for so long and I'm nervous about the ride.

"I'm fit enough. It`s just how we will cope on the bike."
