A BRIDE whose big day was put in jeopardy after the collapse of a Huddersfield hotel saw her wedding go ahead yesterday.

Suzé Nelson and fiancé Dan Trim lost several hundred pounds after paying a deposit for a reception at the George Hotel.

The couple’s money disappeared leaving the couple just 12 weeks to find another venue.

Suzé, 26, of Holmfirth, was one of several brides-to-be left in the lurch when the iconic hotel went into administration and shut down in January.

After her story was featured in the Examiner offers of help flooded in and the couple were able to book a reception at the Old Golf House Hotel at Outlane.

Suzé and Dan, who is 28 on Thursday, were married at Huddersfield Town Hall.

As part of their celebrations they wanted one or two quirky surprises which were thwarted by the snow. Ironically, Suzé’s mum Avril had jokingly predicted a deluge of the white stuff.

Suzé said: “When we said we wanted to get married in March, the original plan was to have the service at the Town Hall and then walk in a big procession through the town centre to the George. My mother asked what would happen if it snowed and joked about it all the time. She knew what was going to happen and I am blaming her!”

Suzé had wanted a bouncy castle at the reception along with an ice cream van to serve the buffet dessert to guests in the evening.

Unfortunately, the bouncy castle was a non-starter because of the weather and the ice cream van was snowed in at Mirfield.

Suzé said everyone pulled together after the George went down and she was grateful for all the offers of help.

“We really had to tighten our belts and we had lots of offers from different venues and decided the Golf House was right for us,” she said.

“Everything seemed to have been sorted last weekend but then the snow came. Still, the show had to go on.”

Suzé and Dan, who met at university in York six years ago, had been planning the wedding for three years.

Suzé surprised Dan with a three-day break to Majorca as a honeymoon-cum-birthday trip – and was desperate for a little sunshine.
