ROAD users in Hipperholme are to benefit as Network Rail invests £700,000 replacing the bridge on Station Road.

But the road will have to be closed for several weeks to allow the work to go ahead.

Neil Henry, area general manager for Network Rail said: "This work is vital to secure the long term future of the road as, without it, a weight restriction would have to be imposed on the bridge for safety reasons.

"Our team have held meetings with the local council, residents and businesses about this work in order to minimise the inconvenience caused by the road closure.

"As a result of this consultation the road closure has been reduced from 12 weeks as would be normal for such a project.

"Weather permitting, the team are hoping to complete the works in just three weeks."

A full road closure will be in place from December 5 to 23. A single lane will be open from December 23 to January 19 although there will be a short closure of one to two days during this period while the surface is laid.

The bridge runs over the Halifax to Bradford rail route but no rail services will be affected by this work.
