A ROAD bridge is to be restricted to one lane of traffic only - and it will stay that way for two to three years.
Safety fears have prompted the move at the bridge in Whitacre Street, Deighton.
A recent check found it did not meet new weight standards.
Highways officials will keep traffic to one lane only in the middle of the road.
The restriction comes into force on Wednesday.
A Kirklees Council spokes- woman said: "This will remain in place until permanent strengthening work can be carried out in around two to three years' time depending on funds being available."
The bridge carries vehicles over the main Leeds-Manchester railway line.
The spokeswoman explained the alternative to the lane restriction would have been to ban buses and lorries altogether.
