FIREFIGHTERS in West Yorkshire will get a new lorry to shift major rescue equipment.

The lorry – known as a prime mover – will be used to carry specialist equipment such as urban search and rescue kit and mass decontamination units.

It is one of 50 lorries worth more than £7m being supplied to fire services nationwide by the Government.

In West Yorkshire the specialist equipment is kept at Dewsbury, Cleckheaton, Wakefield and Stanningley in Leeds.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling said: “These are very significant additions to the fleet and will enhance the ability of fire and rescue services to provide a more flexible response to national emergencies.”
