A POSTWOMAN and her two children had to be rescued from a Royal Mail compound in Huddersfield by firefighters.

The trio became trapped in a secure part of the Northumberland Street complex at 1.30pm on Saturday.

Firefighters say the woman had been returning undelivered letters.

While they were in the building, security staff locked it for the day.

Realising they would be trapped she called the emergency services.

Firefighters set up ladders on either side of the compound gates to allow the woman and her children to climb free.
