ANCIENT China will be brought to life in Brighouse – thanks to a local author.

Writer Tim Murgatroyd will be at Brighouse Library on April 30 to launch his new book, Taming Poison Dragons.

The Brighouse-born author now lives in York with his wife and two young sons.

He works as an English teacher.

But, in his spare time, he has created a novel about tragedy and enduring love in Sung Dynasty China.

The book tells the story of Yun Cai, a handsome young poet, who has to confront dangerous warlord General An-Shu and his beautiful but deadly consort Lady Ta Chi, after their men terrorise his village.

Mr Murgatroyd’s interest in China began when he discovered a volume of Chinese poetry in a second-hand bookshop.

The launch starts at 7.30pm. Entry is free.
